Len Fabich came to Alaska the summer of 1984. Inspired by his father John, who always had the dream to come to Alaska. Len fulfilled that dream for himself and his father who joined him on the ocean for a month in the summer of 1985 fishing for halibut, shrimp and crab. It was there that Len found a new home on the ocean and passion for what Alaska offered. Len worked as a teacher in bush Alaska for 20 years and an additional 12 years providing tech services to bush schools. Len has returned to Homer in the summer since 1987 to fish commercially for Halibut and now salmon. Raising a family of 4 children Len grew his own crew. From early ages the children grew into accomplished help on deck. A story of its own. Len began seining for salmon the summer of 2014 in Lower Cook Inlet where he catches mainly Red (Sockeye) and Pink salmon. Len chooses to offer select hand picked salmon and halibut for a small retail supply of the best that he has to offer. A better product will be hard to find!
Len has fished with all of his children on board the FV Robin. Since about 1998 the crew has always involved his children, or one of his children and their friend. Since they were old enough to walk on deck we found a job for them. It has been the most rewarding part of my fishing carreer to be work with my children. Instilling a work ethic and love for the ocean has served them all well.
Garrity and Len offloading their catch of the day. Garrity is will be commercial fishing salmon in Kodiak this summer. He had time off last summer during squid season to join us for salmon. He is a man of the sea and has been since he could walk. He is. rock star.
Jenna my oldest daughter worked aboard the FV Robin during the summer fishing commercial halibut for many years. Currently working in the halibut charter industry in Homer. Jenna is now better known for her viral halibut fillet skills and appearance with nationally know chef Gordon Ramsay in a fillet competition.
Libby my third child and dedicated deck hand loves the water. She has the tenacity it takes! Libby is working on Alaska waters this summer and may be able to join us of halibut.
Delta my youngest daughter age 15 will be doing halibut this summer as well as stacking corks. A skill she excelled at during our 2018 season. Delta has been running hydraulics on the salmon seiner for the previous two years. Like all the children she started at an early age. Here she is at about the age of 2 handing hooks to her sister Jenna. We always found ways to include everyone on deck!
